After medical training at the Royal London Hospital, Dr Tanner began his career as a GP. His interest in sports medicine and musculoskeletal disorders led him to qualify further and he is now an authority in these areas. He has been awarded a fellowship of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine in the UK and Ireland.

Dr Tanner teaches and lectures both nationally and internationally and is a member of the International Academy of manual and Musculoskelal Medicine. He is also an instructor for the International Spine Intervention Society which instructs other specialists in minimal intervention techniques for the Spine. He is President of the British Institute of Musculoskeletal medicine and course organiser and tutor for postgraduate education.

He has written three books on back pain; ‘Better Back’, published by Dorling Kindersley, ‘Your guide to Back Pain by Hodder Arnold, the BMA guide to Back Care by DK. He also writes for textbooks in Musculoskeletal medicine and training manuals. He is on the Editoral Board of International Musculoskeletal Medicine and Honorary lecturer at Bartholomews and the Royal London Hospital in the MSc programme for Sports and Exercise medicine.

Dr Tanner’s memberships include the British Association of Sports and Exercise Medicine, BMA, SIS, the Pain Society of Great Britain and Ireland.
