Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Oving Medical Clinic
October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an incredibly important time to talk about breast health, encourage routine screening, and empower ourselves to be aware of any changes.
At The Oving Medical Clinic, we believe that education and early detection are key, and as advocates for women’s health support, we are committed to supporting you with both.
The Power of Being Breast Aware
While we always recommend that you attend your routine NHS breast screening when invited, it is also vital to monitor your own breasts regularly and be aware of any changes that are new or unusual for you. Being familiar with how your breasts look and feel makes it easier to spot potential issues early on.
Breast Cancer Signs and Symptoms
Our GP and Women’s Health Expert, Dr Georgina Hughes, shares some key changes to look out for when monitoring your breasts:
- Breast or armpit lumps: This is the most commonly known sign. Not all lumps are cancerous, but they do need checking.
- Change to the shape of one of your breasts: Noticeable swelling, shrinkage, or distortion.
- Changes to your nipples or nipple discharge: Including a nipple turning inwards (inversion), a rash, or any discharge (especially if bloody) that is not breast milk.
- Skin changes over your breast or nipples: Such as dimpling, puckering, or redness (which can be harder to see on darker skin).
- Persistent breast pain: While breast pain that comes and goes is often hormonal, persistent pain should be checked.
If you notice any of these changes, please don't hesitate to seek medical advice. Trust your instincts – if something doesn't feel right, it's always worth getting it checked out.
Your Peace of Mind is Our Priority
We understand that finding a change or even just having a nagging concern can be worrying. That's why, at The Oving Medical Clinic, we make it easy and confidential to address any breast concerns you may have.
We can offer same-day appointments with a trusted GP in Chichester, in a safe and confidential environment. This allows you the time you need to talk through your concerns fully and receive a professional assessment without a long wait. Taking action quickly can bring immense peace of mind, even if the concern turns out to be nothing serious.
Going Beyond: Our Advanced Cancer Screening Test
Are you someone who is symptom-free but simply wanting some more reassurance about your health?
We are proud to be able to offer a truly groundbreaking option in proactive health monitoring: the advanced cancer screening blood test, Trucheck Intelli.
Using the latest medical technology, the Trucheck Intelli Cancer Screening Test searches for tiny traces of tumour cells in your bloodstream. It can identify these circulating tumour cells, which may be present before any symptoms have even had a chance to develop. This non-invasive test is designed to complement, not replace, standard screening and can offer a fantastic layer of insight for those seeking maximum reassurance and early detection capabilities.
